In the lovely Octagon space of the puppet theatre in Norwich; using lights, shadows, dens and of course teddies, we created a wonderful world for animals to play. Some of us even became animals!

I had the pleasure this week of visiting The Parkside School in Norwich during their arts week. There was loads of activities going on. I worked with 4 groups on expressive mark making. I took them through some warm up activities before we started on the BIG painting. There was sponging, scraping, dragging, smearing and of course squirting and dribbling paint. All the groups thoroughly explored the potential of paint and enjoyed the complicité of making a group piece. We made time lapses films of the painting which I will hopefully be able to post here later. I was very lucky to be in a room that had wipe clean walls and a very accommodating teacher, as we made quite a mess!
So many magic moments from yesterday's Planet UV at Norwich Puppet Theatre. Watching two brothers playing with shredded paper for nearly half an hour was well worth the spectacular art installation called "Mess" that was created as result of these children playing! This activity is an extension of "taking a line for a walk".
Here we have parents and children working together, but it could be suitable for same age groups as well. One of you holds the pen and is passive, the other holds their hand and takes it and the pen for a walk around the page. After a minute or two swap roles. It is a really interesting exercise. Dominant personalities can struggle with letting go, and followers get the opportunity to take the lead. Working with families it is apparent that the adult is not always the dominant party and vice versa, so it provides a really good level playing field where we can step out of our usual roles, whatever they might be. Paper, Paper EVERYWHERE! was the first of this season's Little Tots sessions at Norwich Puppet Theatre. We had all sorts of paper related fun... paper rain, paper bunting, paper beds and a paper moon....
